Today is National Independence Day! We have the morning to enjoy the celebrations downtown.
After lunchtime, we embark on a guided sightseeing tour of Reykjavík.
We will visit Harpa Concert Hall and Opera House, as well as Hallgrímskirkja Church, a stunning landmark named after poet Hallgrímur Pétursson. This Lutheran church, standing at 74.5 meters tall, is the largest in Iceland and has become a national symbol since its completion in 1986.
The tour continues with a visit to Bessastaðir, the residence of the President of Iceland, followed by a stop at the famous Sun Voyager sculpture by the ocean. Driving through downtown Reykjavík, you will see the Althing Parliament, the Office of the Prime Minister, and the historic Höfði House, where Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev met to end the Cold War.
In the afternoon we will also experience FlyOver Iceland, where you will be suspended in front of a massive spherical screen for a thrilling simulated flight across Iceland, enhanced with wind, mist, and scent effects.
This evening, we will gather and enjoy a welcome dinner together.
